Dungeon Crawl is Literary
Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is a literary game. I find delightful excerpts from all sorts of interesting poems and history books that I should have read long ago. Perhaps it is an educational game in some respects.
Mainly weapon descriptions. I think some of the excerpts from literature and history have been removed in successive versions, however. I would be in favor of up to half a page of description for just about everything, if it is written well or taken from a good source, because Crawlers are just bound to be readers as well. Check out the description for dagger. "I won't get up, I won't get up to save my life / for you have two beaten swords, and I have but a pocket knife..."
Also note that some uniques are based upon historical figures, such as Nikolai the electrician. Look up Nikolai on Wikipedia. I'm not familiar with any of the others or don't recognize them (unless Sigmund is supposed to be Freud?).
Another aspect to the game is its basis upon mythology, theology Medieval and ancient, Tolkien's work and the work of other fantasy writers. Tolkien's Rings trilogy has yet to be equaled.

Can you provide a good example?
